Canadain Politics/Foreign Policy

Canadian politics has involved a tug-of-war between nationalists and those demanding closer ties to the United States. Since the 1980's continentalists have rammed "free trade"deals through Parliment, pushing for ever tighter Deep Integration with the U.S. in the economic, military, and political sphere. This parallels the push for more American-style neoliberal policies in our economy at the expense of working Canadians along with privatization and funding cuts to Medicare, education, and social programs. Stephen Harper's neocons. with their religous zeal for a corporate friendly agenda, are now in a position to lock in and extend these changes.
